Work From Home Best Practices Eden & Main Home Office a Major Plus for Southington couple
Southington, CT – Working from home has become part of the new normal amid the global COVID-19 pandemic. Finding strategies to create home space and provide comfort, efficiency and privacy for the long term can be a challenge.
As many companies consider long-term work from home plans, many employees are determining how to adapt business operations to the new normal. Work from home internet searches have spiked, and numerous publications and online sources have begun to provide information on everything from work from home productivity to work-life balance.
Melanie and Angelo of Southington, CT, made a huge life-change, despite the pandemic, moving from their respective parents’ homes into a newly built townhome together. They started looking for a townhome in February, just as the pandemic began, and moved in during the late spring, in the depths of the stay-at-home period. One of their first priorities was to set up not one, but two workspaces in the same spare bedroom. “our home office has worked beautifully,” says Melanie, “thanks to the many great features our new home provides.”
They’re both auditors at the same West Hartford firm where they met more than three years ago. Daily, face-to-face meetings with clients, staff, and colleagues had always been the norm, which abruptly changed to virtual meetings. Their days are spent working at home at their computers, fielding client calls and meeting remotely. How do they make the shared office work?
Melanie says their open floorplan kitchen, living and dining area is the before and after workspace, a sanctuary for them to get away from work, while the second bedroom is now ‘office central.’ “We each have separate calls to make and meetings throughout our workday and we’re making it work,” says Melanie. To change things up, we take five and 10-minute breaks throughout the day which keeps us from going stir-crazy,” she adds.
As for Melanie and Angelo’s home office space, they’ve focused on making it as efficient as possible. They purchased additional monitors, docking stations, printer and shredder – and they always use headphones with built-in microphones; everything they need to effectively get their work done.
Some tips they offer others:
· Maintain a daily routine: get up at the same time and dress as if you’re going to the office.
· Keep track of your hours worked – so you don’t find yourself getting overwhelmed or working too much.
· Plan time to exercise, make meals, and go outside.
Depending on where you live, taking walks during a work break can clear your mind. Melanie and Angelo chose a two-bedroom home at The Townhomes at Eden & Main in Southington specifically because of its proximity to town center. Being close to restaurants where they can easily pick up takeout or enjoy outdoor dining is a feature they have really enjoyed about their new home’s location.
Getting outdoors is more advice to others from Melanie and Angelo. Their Eden & Main townhome is within walking distance to local open space and the Farmington Canal Trail. They can safely visit with nearby friends when possible; and enjoy the canal trail during work breaks or personal time. They’re also thrilled to have an outdoor patio for those quick work breaks or al fresco at-home meals.
Melanie and Angelo feel very fortunate to have found the right home for their lifestyle with all the right features, especially considering the work from home situation they found themselves in. They advise people looking for a home now, to closely consider possible workspace. When considering a new home, finding the right place that checked all the boxes was important to them as well. Finally, working with a builder that provided a clean and well-built home, while also navigating the complexity of purchasing a home during a global pandemic, was crucial in having a good experience. “The finished product is beyond our expectations,” said Melanie, “We are happy to finally be settled in our new home.”
